Aroha and Whanau

 Aroha in my whanau

My family is great. My mum and dad are loving to me because they give me everything I need. I get

lots of hugs and smiles.

I love my family because they are always there for me when I am sad and they make me feel better by giving me some food and maybe watching a movie with me. I also love my brothers because they help me when I get mad!

My favourite whanau saying is: “Family is Life.”

My favourite aroha symbol is

Water Awareness

Last week we did water awareness lessons. We started on the 8th of June, and the boys went first. I was very excited to be going on the bus to the pools.

The first thing I learned was how to float on my back and look up at the ceiling. I actually knew how to do this already but it was still fun.

My favourite part of the swimming time was when I jumped off the side of the pool and swam to the other side. It was a race but too bad, Nicole beat me.

The one day we all went inside a boat and sat on the side. I almost fell off when they tried to capsize us. When the teacher said 'go' we had to take turns to fall off backwards. It was really so much fun. I think I learned a lot at water awareness and I know I can stay floating if I get into trouble in the sea.

Table Tennis experience for Rm 6.

On Wednesday, after lunch, Dinyar came to give Room 6 children a lesson on how to play table tennis. He works for Table Tennis New Zealand and he represents New Zealand. We had a group photo together and then our first activity was how to hold the bat. He said we must hold the bat like we're giving a handshake.

After that he said we would learn how to hold the bat like professionals do to get more grip. Then we got into a circle and balanced our balls on the bat. I found it very hard because the ball kept rolling off and it was windy.

We had a competition to see who could balance their ball for the longest. The fist time, Chadwick won and then Sulia from our class. I enjoyed learning how to table tennis.

Revealing my feelings through Art.

A few weeks ago I made a self portrait and I tried to make it look like me. I had to draw an oval shape for my face and then we learned how to divide the face into sections for the eyes, nose and mouth. Sometimes it was hard to get the right size of all the parts of my face.

Then I had to colour in my face using coloured wax crayons. It was hard to get the right colour for my hair. Another day we had to draw our feelings with a white wax crayon on white paper. It was hard to see what I had drawn but then when I painted blue dye on top, all the white lines came through. I loved that part.

My blurb I wrote that I like is "When I feel scared, I go around in circles."

Grandma and I

Learning GoalI am learning to write a narrative text.
Success criteria: I can do this when I have
  •  a Title
  • Beginning: Who is the story about?
  • Middle: describe the problem and the solution
  • End: What happened at the end?
My grandma drank her cup of tea while I played with my cat.
Grandma spilled her cup of tea on her hand.  She placed her hand under the running water. I got the clean towel and gave it to grandma. Grandma felt better.
Grandma knew what to do.

Trampoline Park

Learning goalWe are learning to write a descriptive text.
Success criteria: We can do this when we can use describing  words.

My family and I went to the Trampoline Park. I saw my uncle and my dad did a back flip. I was brave to do a back flip too. I jumped and bounced. I jumped and did a front flip. I jumped and jumped higher than my cousin.
We all had a good time.
